District 20: Ang Mo Kio, Bishan & Thomson

Located at the geographical heart of Singapore, District 20 not only offers convenient access across the island, but also boasts of the ideal mix of mature public residential estates and newer upmarket ones, with ample public facilities, amazingly good food choices, and reputable schools all within in one district.

Situated in the geographical centre of Singapore, District 20 includes:

  • Ang Mo Kio: A large predominantly public residential estate, Ang Mo Kio is a popular mature estate that is most famous for being the ward of Singapore’s Prime Minister and plenty of good food.
  • Bishan: Previously a major burial ground, Bishan is a newer and more upmarket residential estate that is incredibly attractive to families due to its proximity to some of Singapore’s top schools.
  • Thomson: A predominantly upscale private neighbourhood with mostly condominiums and landed properties, Thomson is a little enclave that is well known for being a foodie and enrichment hotspot.

Nature and Parks

For homeowners keen on being close to nature, District 20 will be a great choice considering that it’s adjacent to the Central Water Catchment Area which includes multiple nature parks.

Located in the Thomson neighbourhood, residents have easy access to the MacRitchie Nature Trail & Reservoir Park, where one can enjoy up to 11 kilometres of nature trails within a tropical rainforest, challenge your fear of heights on the 250-metre Treetops Walk, or even try your hand at canoeing or kayaking within the reservoir itself.

That’s not all, between the boundaries of Ang Mo Kio and Bishan, there’s yet another 62-hectare park, the aptly named Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park which not only features a prominent man-made river running through the length of the park but lots of other facilities like massive fields, dog runs, playgrounds, landscaped gardens amongst many others.

Other notable parks in the vicinity include Windsor Nature Park, Lower Pierce Reservoir Park, Ang Mo Kio Town Garden West, and Thomson Nature Park.

Schools, Libraries, and Other Public Facilities

One of the biggest appeals of District 20 is the number of reputable schools in the vicinity. This includes top schools like Raffles Junior College, Raffles Institution, Raffles Girls’ Secondary, Ai Tong Primary School, Kuo Chuan Presbyterian Primary School, Catholic High School, and CHIJ St. Nicholas Girl’s School.

That aside, the wide array of conveniently accessible public amenities (mostly congregated in Bishan and Ang Mo Kio) is also what makes District 20 such an attractive neighbourhood for homeowners.

Between Bishan and Ang Mo Kio, residents can enjoy public amenities like the Bishan Swimming Complex, Bishan ActiveSG Stadium, Bishan Sports Centre, Bishan Library, Ang Mo Kio Swimming Complex, Ang Mo Kio Polyclinic, Ang Mo Kio Library, 2 bus interchanges, multiple neighbourhood centres, and community centres, and at least 3 shopping malls.

Food & Beverages (F&B) and Retail Options

Home to some of Singapore’s most popular food outlets and brands, District 20’s residents are spoiled for choice when it comes to F&B.

Almost every other neighbourhood hawker centre or Kopitiam below a HDB flat could have a popular food shop! You just need to do a quick search on Google to find them all. Otherwise, some popular spots for affordable local cuisine include Kim San Leng Food Centre Bishan, Shunfu Road Market and Food Centre, and Cheng San Market & Cooked Food Centre.

Alternatively, just head to Upper Thomson Road for a whole stretch of amazing eateries that range from the popular Roti Prata House to cafes like One Man Coffee.

Otherwise, there’re always the malls! In Ang Mo Kio, the go-to mall would be Ang Mo Kio Hub, in Bishan, it would be Junction 8, and for Thomson, it would be Thomson Plaza – all offering plenty of exciting F&B and retail options.

Great Connectivity Via Public Transport and Highways

The central location combined with the network of two MRT lines (Circle Line and North-South Line) and easy access to the Central Expressway (CTE) and Lornie Highway makes for amazing accessibility to any part of the island.
