Previously an overlooked residential area due to its lack of housing developments, District 13 has been turning heads in recent years with its new transformative public and private projects.
Situated in the east of Singapore’s Central region, District 13 includes:
- Macpherson: An old and previously underdeveloped housing estate, that is part of an industrial hub where there are manufacturers and automobile businesses galore.
- Potong Pasir: A small estate undergoing major rejuvenation due to a recent influx of new public and private housing developments.
Parks and Sports Centres
While each smaller estate within the district boasts of its own park, it’s also interesting to note that Potong Pasir’s new public housing developments also come with plenty of green community spaces (be it sky parks, or green corridors).
For Potong Pasir’s residents, the 10-hectare Bidadari Park will be an amazing green space to revel in nature. With sprawling green lawns, 6 kilometres of trails, a lake, and even a play area with a massive tree house, it’s perfect for all sorts of outdoor activities with family members of all ages.
While public sporting facilities are far and few in this neighbourhood, residents only have to look next door for all their sporting needs. Nearby neighbourhoods like Toa Payoh, Serangoon, or even Kallang, have plenty of sporting facilities to make up for it.
Schools, Libraries, and Other Public Facilities
As part of a major transformation plan to update the neighbourhood into a modern residential estate, District 13 is slated for many exciting developments in terms of public amenities to support the new housing developments.
For now, it already boasts of bustling neighbourhood centres, community clubs, and nearby public libraries (in Toa Payoh and Geylang) with more to come.
When it comes to schools, parents can choose from the nearby St. Andrew’s Secondary School, St. Andrew Junior School, Cedar Primary, Cedar Girl’s Secondary School, Bendemeer Secondary School, and more.
For kids of younger ages, there’s a wide variety of kindergartens nearby like My First Skool, PAP Education Centre, Little Seeds Preschool, The Junior Learners Learning Centre, and more, to accommodate the needs of working parents.
Food & Beverages (F&B) and Retail Options
Even for a relatively underdeveloped residential estate, District 13 has no lack of F&B options thanks to its proximity to the nearby industrial hub of Taiseng.
For a variety of casual restaurant chains, cafes, and local fare, there’s the Poiz Centre (small shopping mall) and adjacent town centre for residents in Potong Pasir.
In contrast, residents in Macpherson have more options, with the wide variety of food joints along the long stretch of MacPherson Road, the Circuit Road Market & Food Centre, Circuit Road Hawker Centre, MacPherson Market & Food Centre, Macpherson Mall, and the BreakTalk IHQ mall.
Great Accessibility via Public Transport & Highways
Now served conveniently by the North-East Line (Potong Pasir MRT), Circle Line (Macpherson and Tai Seng MRT), and Downtown Line (Macpherson MRT and Mattar MRT), and two of Singapore’s busiest highways (the PIE and CTE), District 13 resident’s can enjoy great access to all parts of Singapore.
