Due to the proximity to Singapore’s number one shopping and retail paradise, and nearby international and branded local schools, District 09 is easily one of Singapore’s most affluent and sought-after residential estates.
Situated in the central region of Singapore, District 09 includes:
- Orchard: Singapore’s world-renowned shopping district, which is home to an endless stretch of mega malls with a diverse variety of retail brands, dining, and entertainment options.
- River Valley: A quiet upscale family-friendly enclave adjacent to the bustling shopping stretch, consisting mostly of private residential properties and international schools (catering to the expatriate crowd who favours this neighbourhood).
Nature and Sports Centres
With its central and prime location, District 09 does not have the luxury of having many green spaces within the district itself if any at all.
However, for residents looking for a respite in nature, there are two major nature attractions nearby – the Singapore Botanic Garden (at the fringe of the Orchard neighbourhood) and Fort Canning Park (which flanks the other end of the River Valley district)
At a whopping size of 82 hectares, the proximity to the Singapore Botanic Gardens (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) makes up for the lack of any other small neighbourhood park. The various zones within the Gardens, like the Learning Forest, Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden, and National Orchid Garden amongst many others, offer many exciting trips to discover and learn more about nature.
On the other side of the district, Fort Canning Park, a hilltop landmark, offers not only a massive green space to enjoy nature, indulge in outdoor events, and fascinating insights into Singapore’s history.
The proximity to the central retail and entertainment district also means there is no lack of options when it comes to fitness. Most of the private condominiums come with gyms, otherwise, there are plenty of fitness studios in the district for residents to get their sweat on.
Schools, Libraries, and Other Public Facilities
While not located within the district per se, some of Singapore’s most reputable schools like St Joseph Institution, Singapore Chinese Girls’ School, and Anglo-Chinese School are located just along the fringes of the district.
For expatriate families, the easy access to international schools, social clubs, and embassies within the district is a bonus! For the students, there are schools like Chatsworth International School, EtonHouse International School, ISS International School, and more to choose from. For the adults, there’s Tanglin Club, Raffles Town Club, The American Club, and many more places to let loose and socialize with fellow expatriates.
Located within the entertainment hub of Singapore, the public library (within Orchard Gateway Mall) is not only easily accessible but also an Instagrammable spot to relax and unwind in between shopping sprees.
Food & Beverages (F&B) and Retail Options
Not much needs to be said when it comes to F&B and retail options. With more than 15 malls and counting, compared to the 1 or 2 in normal heartland estates, there is no other district that can claim the number 1 spot when it comes to the best and most diverse array of choices that District 9 can offer.
Central Location at The Heart of Singapore
River Valley, while not close to any major transport hub, is easily accessible via cars thanks to its central location.
The Orchard neighbourhood, on the other hand, is well-connected to various parts of the island with its myriad of bus routes that ply across the island, and 3 MRT stations Orchard, Somerset, and Dhoby Ghaut that offer connectivity via 3 different lines (Circle line, Northeast line, and North-South line).
